Calendar Change

posted Dec 13, 2011, 9:12 AM by Heather Peterson

Our current district calendar has school in session for Monday, January 2, 2012, which is the federal New Year's Day holiday. We understand there are community and family events planned for this day, in addition to the closure of many businesses and surrounding school districts in recognition of this holiday. In the best interest of all, the Escondido Union School District's school board has decided to close school for this day, and minimize lost instructional time for students. Both association presidents have been included in the discussion and approval process for this calendar change.

· There will be no school on Monday, January 2, 2012.

· In order to make up for this missed day of school, we will now end our year on Friday, June 8, 2012 rather than Thursday, June 7, 2012.

A letter in English and Spanish will be mailed home to all families about this calendar change. Updated calendars will be placed on our district and site web pages. Additional information will be sent out to classified employees and administrators/managers in regards to work calendar adjustments.

Recently, a professional film crew spent a day at Central School to document a day in the life of Heather Peterson's 4th Grade class. The focus was on iPods and how they help improve literacy skills (along with all other curricular strands). The mini-documentary is highlighted on Apple's education website. You can watch it here.
