District-Sponsored Social Media

The Escondido Union School District (EUSD) is committed to facilitating ongoing communication with parents and other stakeholders. This page explains our efforts and policies related to one of our most important communication methods: social media.

What is considered “social media?”

Social media means any online platform for collaboration, interaction, and active participation, including, but not limited to, social networking platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, or blogs.

What is considered “official district social media?”

Official district social media is a page / channel authorized by the Superintendent or designee.

EUSD maintains official district social media pages / channels on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. In addition, our schools all maintain their own official Facebook pages, and some schools also have an official presence on other social networks. The majority of EUSD’s collective official social media activity takes place on Facebook.

Social media pages / channels that have not been authorized by the Superintendent or designee, but that contain content related to the district or comments on district operations, are not considered official district social media platforms. Examples include, but are not limited to, pages / channels created by a parent-teacher organization, booster club, or other school-connected organization, or a student’s or employee’s personal website or social media profile.

An important note about age restrictions

Most social networks, including Facebook, require that users be 13 years of age or older. If you are the parent or legal guardian of an EUSD student, and your child is under the age of 13, they should only access information on social networks with you in their presence. EUSD and its schools reserve the right to remove comments from, and block users who, we know or reasonably suspect to be under the age of 13.
