Student Scholars

Three fifth grade students were honored with Student Excellence Awards at the Escondido Union School Board meeting held on March 7.   Our first award winner is Genesis Mejia. Genesis seeks opportunities to be a leader. This year she has been a youth trainer, on the peace patrol, a table leader in the classroom, and is currently acting vice president on Central’s student council. Genesis is also involved in several after school enrichment classes: Play Sports, art, and American Sign Language. Genesis leads by example both inside and outside the classroom. Congratulations Genesis. Also honored is  Abimael Lorenzo.  Abimael plays the saxophone in band, and is a member of the STEM team. He also participates in our after enrichment classes: Mad Science and Play Sports.  In our Central community, Abimael is an excellent communicator and collaborator with teachers, staff, and students. He is always willing to share his knowledge and skills.  Finally,  Kennedy Morales is a scholar who is working at a 6th grade level in both reading and math, and has surpassed our goal of having read 1 million words by the end of the year. Kennedy challenges herself regularly, both in and out of the classroom. In addition to her academic success, she is also a member of Central’s STEM Team, a leader in the PE Youth Training program, and anchors our school’s newscasting, Central News. Kennedy is a wonderful example of a Central scholar.  Presenting the awards is superintendent Luis Ibarra, Central Principal, Crystal Underhill, and School Board president, Mark Olsen.
