Carmen Peralta holding a bouquet of flowers

Carmen Peralta has been chosen by her colleagues at Central School as this year's Teacher of the Year. This is Carmen's 28th year of teaching, all at Central School. Because she has spent her entire teaching career at Central, it's plain to see her dedication to our school and students. Carmen connects with parents, especially Spanish-speaking parents, to ensure their children's success. In the classroom, she is innovative and creative and works to ensure that children are meeting grade level standards. She was the co-grantee for our aquaponics unit and manages it when needed. This year, she organized activities and a book cart for students to use during recess because she saw the need. She also co-chaired our successful Holiday Program and decorated the stage with hand-drawn snowy evergreens and snowflakes.

Carmen's school day doesn't end at 3 p.m., however. She teaches after-school classes and has served as the EEEA representative, dedicating many hours to supporting fellow teachers. She conducts home visits to check in on her students and buys items for them like food, clothes and even mattresses. Additionally, she seeks to improve her skills by attending professional development opportunities. She recently took up ukulele classes to bring music to her classroom. Carmen is a positive and energetic educator who volunteers wherever she can and has the school's best interest at heart. Congratulations, Carmen. We thank you for your generous heart and commitment to Central School.
